Mid-Month: April 2011

So far, April has been something of an interesting month for me. School is pretty insane lately and it’s also busy season at work.

Last week was incredibly strange in and of itself. I found myself in something of a reading slump, and spent more time trading youtube links with a friend than anything else throughout the week. Instead of the finishing a book every day or two, I didn’t finish a book and didn’t even pick up a book most of the week. I did a re-read, or really a skim of my favorite parts of J.R. Ward’s Lover Awakened which helped to get me back in the mood to read, go figure I finished four books in the following two days.

I’ve read 13 books so far this month, four of which are from last weekend’s read-a-thon. April reads so far:
Hush, Hush (Hush, Hush #1) by Becca Fitzpatrick
Yes Means Yes by Jaclyn Friedman and Jessica Valenti
The Art of Seducing a Naked Werewolf (Werewolf #2) by Molly Harper
Vampire Mine (Love at Stake #10) by Kerrelyn Sparks
Bayou Moon (The Edge #2) by Ilona Andrews
Steamed by Katie MacAlister
The Sweetest Thing (Lucky Harbor #2) by Jill Shalvis
The Perfect Bride for Mr. Darcy by Mary Lydon Simonsen
I Am Nujood, Age 10 and Divorced by Nujood Ali
Cowboy Fever by Joanne Kennedy
Tempting the Beast (Breeds #1) by Lora Leigh
The Man Within (Breeds #2)by Lora Leigh
Sins of the Night (Dark-Hunter #7) by Sherrilyn Kenyon

I have reviews coming for the books that don’t have links yet, I should get most of those up this week.

Current Reads:
The Vampire Dimitri (Regency Draculia #2) by Colleen Gleason
Blood Dreams by Kay Hooper and Way of the Wolf by E.E. Knight – for some reason I always get distracted from those two books.

Books in the (hopefully) soon pile include:
Bill of Wrongs by Molly Ivins – which my mom has been after me to read for weeks
House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski – which I’ve had on my to-read list for a long while
The World House by Guy Adams
Easy Prey by John Sanford
My Secret Garden by Nancy Friday
The Varieties of Religious Experience by William James
Sex with Kings by Eleanor Herman – which my mom has also been on me to read, for more than weeks
… there are, of course, other books on the list as well, but we’d be here all day if I listed them all.

I have a whole bunch of review books coming up too. It seems my NetGalley list just keeps growing and growing. Maybe I should’ve joined Red House Books’ NetGalley Month

I’ll also be participating in my first book tour through TLC Tours in May. I’ll be reviewing Lost in Shangri-La by Mitchell Zuckoff which looks incredibly interesting. I can’t wait to read it.

I made my monthly bookstore trip tonight, too! I bought six books, which considering my usual buying habits and the limitation I put on myself, really isn’t all that bad for me. What I got:
My Secret Garden by Nancy Friday
What Do Women Want? Essays by Erica Jong by Erica Jong
Bonk: The Curious Coupling of Science and Sex by Mary Roach
Into the Fire (Troubleshooters #13) by Suzanne Brockmann
Gil’s All Fright Diner by A. Lee Martinez
Equations of Life (Samuil Petrovitch #1) by Simon Morden

I have three and a half weeks left of the semester and I really don’t know how much I’ll be reading, but here’s to hoping I get to read a least a little bit over the next few weeks.
