Musing Mondays: Real Reads

This weeks Musing Monday asks…

Do you care if the book’s storyline is unrealistic? Will you keep reading, or will you set the book aside?

This is one of those questions where I have to say, it depends.

When I’m reading science fiction and fantasy, which I’ve come to love, obviously certain parts of the stories are going to be unlikely to ever happen. I doubt I’ll ever live to see travel between planets or galaxies, but I still read books that involve that sort of thing (I am, after all, a Star Wars lover of epic proportions). The same goes with books that have story lines involving the paranormal.

When it comes to how characters behave, well, as unrealistic as the behavior may seem in the story, there is probably someone out there who’s done it. There are certain things that make me go, “REALLLLLLY?” but chances are I’ll still keep reading, because I want to know what is going to happen in the book.

What’s your take?

I agree even if there is that something that makes me go Really Come on! I still feel the need to read it.

I agree with you! It’s very similar to my response!

I like books that make sense in the context they are written. Once they become totally unrealistic – in that sense – they become silly and incoherent leading them to be junked (and ending up in the charity shop).
