Pride and Prejudice and Beyond

It is no secret to anyone who knows me that Pride and Prejudice is my favorite book of all time, Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet, my favorite characters and couple of all time. I don’t really care how cliche it may be, it’s simply fact. One day while browsing the web, I found a list of all kinds of Pride and Prejudice sequels and variations. It was then that I decided to read as many as I could. Here is my attempt to keep track of all the sequels/variations out there and those that I have read.

*Pride and Prejudice sequels, prequels, variations, and spin-offs have become something of a big business. I do my best to keep my list up to date, but there’s no doubt that I’ve probably missed a few titles that ought to be on the list. If you know of any that I’m missing feel free to let me know.

  • Joan Hancock-Dow says:

I have been trying to recall which one of the variations had Bingley forcing Caroline to do community service at an orphanage following her finding documents in Darcy’s desk then divulging to the Ton about Georgiana’s affair with Wickam? If you can help I’d really appreciate it. Thank you. And thank you for doing this list. Joan

    • Hannah says:

Unfortunately, I’m not familiar with that particular variation. I tried doing some research to see if I could figure it out, but I had no luck. If I come across the story I’ll be sure to post it here for you to find.

I’m glad the list can be of use to you. Enjoy your Darcy and Elizabeth reads!

    • Mary L. says:

A very nice list of P&P sequels.

Joan, I’m not certain if you’re looking for a modern or Regency work regarding your search, but in my sequels, A Marriage Worth the Earning, I have Bingley sending Caroline to work at St. Andrews’ Workhouse for snooping through Elizabeth’s desk and reading letters, then revealing the information about Georgiana to Lady Hazelton who in turn reveals it to her in-laws, Lord and Lady Matlock.

  • Amanda says:

I recently saw a book at a bookstore that was a sequel to P&P where after they were married Darcy decided Elizabeth wasn’t right for him, and they separated, she went to live in London, and then he went and checked up on her and they fell back in love. Any idea what book this is? I tried finding it again on a second trip to the same bookstore, but I couldn’t find it again. No idea of title or author, although I’d say author was probably in the first half of the alphabet.

    • Hannah says:

Amanda, I apologize for the delayed response.

I have been looking through the P&P sequels that I have and those that I know of, but I haven’t read anything that sounds like what you saw, nor have I come across any sequels with a description that sounds similar to what you saw. I am going to do some more searching though and hopefully something will sound right. I’ll let you know what I come up with!

  • Sarah says:

    Hi
I have been trying to remember the title or author of a variation where Longbourn is left to Jane Bennet, and Darcy and Bingley find Elizabeth unconscious..any ideas?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • I have the book Death Comes to Pemberley by P.D. James. Have you read it?
Would you consider listing the above books in chronological order if you can?

  • Anja says:

Even when the answer comes a bit late

    Sarah: Rocks in the streams

Amanda: The only stroy I know in which Darcy comes to regret marring Lizzi is due to a an amnesia the titel is “Darcy’s Temptation”

  • Elisa says:

Amanda: I belive the book your are searching for is “Darcy’s Temptaition by Regina Jeffers”. So far this is the only book Darcy comes to “regret” marring Lizzy due to an amnesia.

Sarah: Rocks in the Stream by Lewis Whelchel

  • Tina J says:

I’m trying to figure out the title of the variation in which a young Darcy and Georgiana meet Elizabeth at a cemetery. When Darcy goes to the assembly at Meryton, he immediately recognizes her.

    • Hannah says:

Hi, Tina! I apologize for the extremely late response. As far as I know I haven’t come across that particular adaptation yet, but over the next day or two I plan to work on expanding this list so I’ll let you know if I come across it.
Sorry I don’t have an answer for you now. 😦

  • Tina J says:

Thanks! This is driving me absolutely crazy. I remember the preface and the Meryton assembly perfectly, but nothing more, so I wanted to re-read it. It was definitely in a book. I own almost 50 titles, and it’s not in any of them, so I am baffled.

  • Tina J says:

YAY, I found it! I can’t believe it! And I had it all along. But with a name as “A Promise,” it got lost in my 300+ kindle books. I was once again going though amazon, looking for JAFF books I did not recognize, and I stumbled on it. And yes, I bought it in November 2012. It’s written by C.R. Hoffman.

  • Tina J says:

It’s a nice story, but it’s very poorly written, and some of the characters’ motivations a bit implausible. Anyway, it’s been free on and off at amazon the last few days. Not worth the price, so wait until it’s free again. It’s free on amazon prime as well.

    • Hannah says:

It’s unfortunate that some of the P&P retellings just don’t shine like others, but I’ll still read them anyway because I’m curious like that, lol.
