Top Ten Tuesday: Books Set in Space

Happy Tuesday y’all! This weeks Top Ten Tuesday is all about books set in a particular location and I’m stealing one right from the list – Space! I’ve been reading a lot more Fantasy in the past few years, and my reading of Science Fiction has definitely taken a back seat as a result. So, I’m going to share ten books set in Space, or a planet other than Earth, that I would like to read (or, should have already read). I got excited enough to put a couple of holds in at the library while compiling this list, so I may end up reading some of these sooner rather than later!

1. The Hitchhikers’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams: I know, please don’t stare me down over this one.
2. 2001: A Space Odyssey by Arthur C. Clarke
3. Binti by Nnedi Okorafor
4. Consider Phlebas by Iain M. Banks
5. Leviathan Wakes by James S.A. Corey

6. The Martian by Andy Weir
7. Dead Silence by S.A. Barnes
8. Warchild by Karin Lowachee
9. Ninefox Gambit by Yoon Ha Lee
10. Lightless by C.A. Higgins

Do you have any favorite or anticipated space books? Do share!

Until next time, Happy Reading!

Dead Silence was fun! I really liked Dead Space too by Kali Wallace.

I hadn’t heard of Dead Space, but it looks like it could be a fun sci-fi thriller sort of situation! I’ll be checking that out. 🙂

I’m not much of a sci-fi reader, so I haven’t read any of these or even heard of most of them. I DNF’d THE MARTIAN, but I did really like PROJECT HAIL MARY.

    Happy TTT!

I’ve read 1, 2, 4, 5 & 6 and liked/really liked them all for various reasons. I *used* to read SF a LOT in my youth – almost exclusively in fact. These days SF only shows up rarely. I don’t have much in the way of SF (and especially space-stuff) planned in the near future. I’ll need to look into that I think…

Sci-fi is just so much fun, I think because at least for humans now, it’s so outside the realm of possibility (maybe this is just me?). I just have to give the genre more love, lol. It deserves it!

Have you gotten through any more of the Expanse books yet? I know I have some more of your posts that I haven’t gone through yet, so not sure if I missed it.

Oh, Sci-Fi is a LOT of fun! My Blog listings (196 entries!) don’t really reflect my overall SF reading as I did most of that pre-Blog, or pre-Internet actually!!! SF is definitely the genre that defined me (and got me reading so much in the first place). These days I might read 10 a year at a push.

I’ve only read the first 2 Expanse books so far. I’d have gotten further but I’ve been going through a slow reading patch so BIG books are out ATM. I ‘seem’ to be coming out of that funk though, so maybe No 3 next year??

I have a few SF in the pipeline though I don’t actually have *that* many new ones in my physical TBR pile(s). I’m re-reading the Dune & Foundations books presently and will probably continue re-reading the Sprawl trilogy by William Gibson… Apart from that…. [muses]

Hopefully you’re back up to normal reading speed soon! There are far too many books out there for those kinds of moods, lol.

Speaking of Dune, did you see the movie they did? I was so intrigued by the trailer, but of course I won’t watch it until I’ve read the book. I am curious if it’s any good though.

I saw ‘Dune’ the week it came out. I *loved* it. It was MUCH better than previous attempts and stayed true to the book much more than previous versions. I’m looking forward very much to part 2 in March ’24. There’s talk that the director (who I think is great) is looking to ‘do’ the 2nd book too, which would be fantastic. I read the book in my late teens & it blew me away. I re-read it before the movie came out & was still very impressed by it. The book/series can be a bit “Marmite” (love it or hate it) and I’ve heard people really slate it. But I think its a well deserved Classic – though very much of its time (yet oddly timeless!!).

Interesting! It’s one of those classic sci-fi novels that has simply always been there. I’ll probably kick myself for having waited so long to read it once I finally pick it up. I didn’t realize there was a second one coming out next year! Something to look forward to!

The Martian was excellent. Hope you like it.
